Minis
Pirate Sea Dogs
by
Getting back into mini painting. Here’s my pirates (Warmachine Sea Dog Crew) finished long after the campaign they were supposed to take part in is over. Apologies for crappy photography. (If anyone knows a camera that will allow a novice to take good mini photos, I’m in the market for a new camera…)
Anyway! Pictures. Click for huge.
Not sure there’s a quick way to great macro photography without getting a dSLR and a macro lens, but a friend who paints minis says he has good luck with his camera phone and off-board, multiple-source, bright lighting.
You might also benefit from a home-made light box: http://strobist.blogspot.com/2006/07/how-to-diy-10-macro-photo-studio.html
A tripod and a timer will help in low light. I think most phone cameras can pull off both those.
Thanks! That’s more or less where I am now — I’ve got a light-box (though I didn’t use it for these pictures) and as much lighting as I can manage, and an old point-and-shoot camera on a tripod. The biggest problem is getting things in focus across the whole model. I’ve been fighting the idea of going all the way up to a dSLR since I do this so rarely, but maybe I should.
